Abstract

Colloid-chemical properties of cationic polyelectrolytes and their mixtures with iron(III) chloride are studied, including the viscosity, adsorption on the cellulose surface, capillary imbibition and rise, and apparent charge density on the polymer. Selection criteria are proposed for polyelectrolytes as reagents for thickening and compaction of sludge from pulp-and-paper works.
