Oxidation of ferrocene and 1,1'-ferrocene triselenide by bromine and phenyltellurium tribromide The reaction of 1,1'-ferrocene triselenide, Fe(C5H4)2Se3 (I), with bromine or phenyltellurium tribromide, PhTeBr3, involves the oxidation of compound I to form salts [Fe(C5H4)2Se3]+FeBr 4 - (II) and [Fe(C5H4)2Se3]+PhTeBr 4 - (III), respectively. Depending on the crystallization conditions, the reaction of ferrocene with PhTeBr3 affords salt [Fc]+[PhTeBr4]– (IVa), its solvate with benzene{[Fc]+[PhTeBr4]–}2 · C6H6 (IVb), or etherate [Fc]+[Ph2Te2Br6OH]– · 0.5(C2H5)2O (V).
