There is no need to dwell in detail on Benson’s sci- entiﬁc biography; he has achieved this brilliantly him- self through two publications in 2002 [1, 2], but we would just mention some facts showing the importance of Benson’s personality to international science. The ﬁrst scientiﬁc effort that brought international fame to a quite young fellow was his research into the carbon path in photosynthesis. Along
