The Institute of Medical Genetics dealt not only with human genetics, but also with genetics of the mouse and Drosophila. Large-scale studies were launched. During the first several years of work, four young scientists’ schools on various problems of human and medical genetics were organized and held at the institute. Bochkov then demonstrated his outstand- ing faculties for science management. On his initiative, branches of the Institute of Medical Genetics were founded in Minsk and Tomsk; they soon became well- known independent research institutions. The field of Bochkov’s scientific interests is wide; encompassing various applied problems of human and medical genetics. Of special importance are fundamen- tal studies in the patterns of human hereditary variation.
