FOR UNMOLDED REFRACTORIES FOR EXTRA-FURNACE
TREATMENT UNITS AND STEEL POURING

An assortment of molded and unmolded refractories produced by Bogdanovich OAO Ogneupory is presented.
It is noted that the creation of OOO Ogneupornyi Beton will make it possible to propose new forms of
unmolded refractories responding to the contemporary requirements of metallurgy.
The main task of Bogdanovich OAO Ogneupory is
currently more complete provision of refractories to metal-
lurgists required for modern production processes, in particular
extra-furnace treatment of steel. The enterprise produces a
number of new molded and unmolded refractories.
Components for slide gates. In order to provide the
required quality of metal many metallurgical enterprises are
actively introducing units for comprehensive steel process
ing; in ladles expensive basic linings are used requiring rapid
replacement of refractories within the composition of a slide
The Bogdanovich OAO Ogneupory is working on the
creation of manufacturing technology for plates for repeated
use in slide gates of the type RUS-60. Improvement of the
operating properties of refractory plates remains an impor
The enterprise has all the necessary technical potential
for organizing production of plates for slide gates: inherent
production of electrically melted high quality corundum;
modern mixers for rapid mixing from Airich (Germany)
making it possible to prepare high quality mixes; powerful
1600-ton hydraulic presses making it possible to prepare
compacts with high density; high-temperature furnaces for
annealing components. In addition, there is a section
organized for preparing metal shells, and also a section for
grinding the working surface of plates; a mortar composition
has been developed making possible to secure reliably a
plate in a metal shell.
In physicochemical indices the plates of half-dry com-
paction grade KGP-83 according to TT 203-44–2004 are no
worse than the analogs of other producers and have high
quality indices provided below:

Industrial tests of the experimental batches carried out in
OAO A. K. Serov Metallurgical Plant during pouring of a
whole range of melted steels from a 96-ton ladle showed that
the corundum-graphite plates provide stable pouring of one
melt. In addition, the Bogdanovich OAO Ogneupory offers
to the user a set of components for slide gates type RUS-60,
and also ladle nozzles and nozzle-collectors manufactured by
half-dry compaction or by concrete technology. In 2007
production started for vibration casting of refractories for
slide gates, and this made it possible to satisfy the needs of
metallurgists to a greater degree.
Ladle nozzles based on corundum provide a life at the
level of pouring 720 tons of metal. In addition the enterprise
produces nozzles based on andalusite that with a lower Al
content (56% against 90% in corundum nozzles) has greater
heat resistance and refractoriness at the level of corundum
(not lower than 1770°C). Tests on andalusite nozzles in OAO
A. K. Serov Metallurgical Plant showed that the life of
andalusite nozzles is no worse than corundum. Since the cost
