Near-field of coaxial jets with large density differences  The paper describes an experimental investigation of coaxial jets with large density differences. Measurements by various techniques show that density effects on the flow dynamics are taken into account to first order by considering the specific outer to inner jet momentum flux ratio M and not separately the density and velocity ratios. A regime of recirculation occurs for M higher than a critical value (M c ≈50). For a given value of M, however, the position of the recirculation bubble is slightly shifted in the upstream direction for density ratios much smaller than one.
