Amethod is proposed for determining the spectral absorption and scattering characteristics of semitransparent ceramic materials from measurements of the diffuse-reflection spectra from an infinitely thick layer and from a layer of finite thickness by the use of asymptotic formulas. Those spectral parameters have been determined for a ceramic, for a thermal production fibrous material based on fused silica, and for a lithium-aluminum silicate glass ceramic of β-spodumene in the wavelength range 1.1 – 2.7 μm.
