“MAPEKO” COMPANY IN THE WORLD MARKET OF EQUIPMENT
FOR DRYING, HEATING, AND THERMOSTATIC CONTROL
OF METALLURGICAL LADLES AND BLAST FURNACE RUNNERS

Engineering and process aspects of development and position of the “MAPEKO” Company in the interna
tional market of equipment for the steel-melting industry are presented. Specialization of the company, its en
gineering policy, innovative activities, general types of produced equipment, performance characteristics of
the latter, and methodological and organizational principles of the work with customers are described.
In the many years of successful cooperation between
“Victoria Garten Hendelsgesellschaft mbH & Co. KG” (VGH)
and “MAPEKO Feuer GmbH & Co” (MAPEKO) the com-
panies have implemented many joint ventures including the
development, production, assembly, and putting into opera-
tion of benches for drying, heating, and thermostatic control
of steel-teeming ladles at some iron and steel works of the
Russian Federation. In the course of the implementation of
the ventures it became clear that the cooperation between
VGH and MAPEKO has been successful and should be con
tinued. In 2007 the companies signed an agreement on exclu
sive and authoritative representation of the interests of
MAPEKO by VGH as a distributor in the territory of Russia,
Belarus, Ukraine, and CIS countries. The agreement has a
termless and complex nature and covers many forms of co
operation and a whole spectrum of representation and distri
bution powers. The present paper generalizes and systema
tizes the experience of operation of MAPEKO accumulated
as a result of the cooperation.
The MAPEKO machine-building company was founded
in 1973 as a small enterprise specializing in design and pro
duction of many kinds of auxiliary equipment for basic engi
neering, such as lift trucks, machines for galvanizing metal
lic strips, casings for electrical cabinets, rammers, devices
for ultrasonic diagnostics of metallic structures, various in
dustrial gas burners and heating devices, and other facilities.
In the first ten years the company gradually turned to deve
loping and producing various heating benches for drying,
heating, and thermostatic control of steel-teeming and tun-
dish ladles, lot-metal ladle cars, and blast furnace runners.
In addition to such benches the company designs and pro-
duces the following equipment:
– preliminary driers of scrap used before feeding the
latter into steelmaking units;
– driers for refractory linings of converters including
those with additional feeding of oxygen to various heated re
gions of the lining;
– portable gas-heating equipment for manual and crane
– gas burners for drying and heating linings of blast fur
nace runners at casting houses;
– burners for heating various branch pipes both rigidly
assembled and movable;
– mini-burners for drying and heating protective tubes of
– heating benches for drying monolithic linings and for
rapid heating of steel-teeming and tundish ladles with com
pact fibrous or concrete linings;
– thermally insulated tuyere lances for blasting or heat
ing degasser tubes;
– heating devices for special purposes designed as speci
fied by consumers;
– valve benches;
– systems for afterburning of exhaust gases.
The structure of shipments of the main kinds of heating
equipment for the last 24 years is listed in Table 1.
