This work is a reference book of over 800 pages. It is a
complete and exhaustive work by well-known neurora-
diologists Mahmood Mafee and Galdino Valvassori
from University of Illinois of Chicago and Minerva
Becker from Geneva University Hospital in Switzerland.
Radiologists will recognize these authors as world-re-
nowned experts in their field.
This book is divided systematically into anatomic
regions. Although many of the same disease entities are
covered several times in multiple sections, the reader will
appreciate that the anatomical systems are respected.
The reader is not asked to refer to other pages or sec-
tions when seeking information about a specific
pathology in specific places. There are several helpful
tables highlighted in sky blue that cover differential
diagnosis, anatomy and other topics that ‘‘belong to-
As evidenced by the title of the book, illustrations
would be the primary rationale behind acquiring it for a
reference library. Patient CT, MRI, plain film and PET
scans are plentiful and often there are corresponding
gross anatomic, histopathologic and endoscopic photos.
There are also diagrams and drawings of complex head
and neck anatomy.
It would be impossible not to recommend this text for
any radiologist, surgeon or other physician involved in
or confronted with head and neck pathology. It should
be considered an absolute necessity for every radiology
residency program’s library and strongly considered for
every head and neck surgeon’s reference collection. All
physicians and surgeons with specialization or interest in
the head and neck would find it a benefit to have easy
access to this publication.
