Klyachko-Gurvich (1929–2003) Geda Klyachko-Gurvich, a veteran of the Ti- miryazev Institute of Plant Physiology, Russian Acad- emy of Sciences, departed from this life on November 26, 2003, on the eve of her 74th birthday. Dr. Klyachko-Gurvich was a key associate of the late Professor Viktor Semenenko, the founder and head of the Department of the Molecular Basis of the Intrac- ellular Regulation and Biotechnology of Photoau- totrophic Biosyntheses, and her scientiﬁc activities as a whole were focused on the lipid metabolism of microalgae as related to the functional photosynthetic activities. It is in this ﬁeld where Klyachko-Gurvich made her most important discoveries and left her unique mark in the Russian and world science. Her major input involved the lipid–protein interactions in the organization of the photosynthetic membrane and the biotechnological regulation of the biosynthetic potential of plant cells by the directional management of their control systems.
