Kinetics of Fluorine Binding from Gaseous Products
of Thermal Decomposition of M-1 Fluorocarbon Liquid
and a Telomeric Alcohol by Alkaline-Earth Metal Oxides
and Calcium Hydroxide

Abstract—The reactions of products of thermal decomposition of ﬂ uorinated compounds with magnesium and
calcium oxides and with calcium hydroxide were studied. The kinetic parameters of the processes were determined.
Conditions were found for complete binding of ﬂ uorine from M-1 ﬂ uorocarbon liquid into environmentally safe
products, alkaline-earth metal ﬂ uorides.
Halogenated materials are widely used in many
branches of industry and spheres of human activity, and
the market of these materials, including ﬂ uoropolymers,
ﬂ uorocarbons, and other compounds vigorously grows
[1, 2]. At the same time, despite wide and long use
of these compounds, scientiﬁ c principles for their
utilization have yet been developed poorly.
In world’s practice, large-scale utilization of industrial
and household wastes is mainly performed by thermal
methods. These processes are environmentally hazardous
because of formation of solid, liquid, and gaseous toxic
and carcinogenic substances [3–5]. Catalytic and reagent
methods are more acceptable environmentally . It
is known that heterogeneous-catalytic deep oxidation
of M-1 ﬂ uorocarbon polyfractional manometric
efﬁ ciently occurs on a molten
vanadium-containing catalyst . However, the process
is accompanied by the release of F
, HF, and CO
the gas phase. We showed  that practically no release
of these gaseous products is observed when Teﬂ on reacts
with alkaline-earth metal oxides and hydroxides in the
presence of oxygen.
It was interesting to study the kinetics of the reactions
of alkaline-earth metal oxides and hydroxides with other
ﬂ uorinated compounds, including those containing,
along with CF
groups, also other atoms.
The goal of this study was to examine the kinetics
of the reactions of products formed by decomposition
of a ﬂ uorocarbon liquid and a telomeric alcohol with
magnesium and calcium oxides and calcium hydroxides,
to determine the amounts of the metal ﬂ uorides formed
and the kinetic parameters of the reactions, and to ﬁ nd
the best conditions for complete binding of ﬂ uorine
from M-1 polyfractional liquid into environmentally

[ TU (Technical Speciﬁ cation)
95.2289–91], resistant to decomposition up to 400°С,
