Die Anwendung einer homöopathischen Behandlung gerät rasch zu einer Angelegenheit ideologischer Auseinandersetzung. Jedoch erfreut sich die Homöopathie in der Bevölkerung einer steten und zunehmenden Sympathie. Obwohl die mögliche Wirksamkeit und die Wirkmechanismen gegenwärtig naturwissenschaftlich nicht aufzuklären sind und die Studienlage bez. homöopathischer Verfahren in der Psychiatrie noch überschaubar ist, gibt es eine ganze Reihe positiver Belege zu der Wirkung homöopathischer Mittel bei psychischen Störungen wie Depression, Angst‑, Zwangs‑, Abhängigkeitsstörungen usw. Die wichtigsten Studien werden vorgestellt und die wichtigsten Argumente in ihrem Für und Wider abgewogen. Fest steht, dass homöopathische Mittel nur als Add-on und nicht alleine anzuwenden sind. Sie gehören in die Hand homöopathisch und psychiatrisch-psychopharmakologisch erfahrener Ärzte. Es wäre zu überlegen, bei zum einen sehr leichten Störungsbildern, aber auf der anderen Seite auch schweren chronischen Verläufen zusätzlich Homöopathie zum Wohle des Patienten zumindest auszuprobieren, da aufgrund der grundsätzlich guten Verträglichkeit kein zu vermeidender Nachteil für diesen resultieren dürfte.
