The journal publishes review and original research
papers on various aspects of theoretical and applied
marine biology as well as chronicles, book reviews,
notes on the history of marine biology, and the activi-
ties of marine biological institutions and scientists. All
papers are published in Russian.
The journal welcomes contributions from foreign
and Russian authors, written in Russian or English, and
not exceeding 30 typewritten pages for reviews,
15 pages for full-size papers, and nine pages for short
communications. The number of pages includes refer-
ences, tables, ﬁgures, and ﬁgure captions. The text
should be 1.5-spaced, with the left margin not less than
2.5 cm. The number of characters in the line should not
exceed 60. One original and two copies should be pro-
vided both of the manuscript and illustrations. A series
of papers presented as subdivisions of the same title (I,
II, etc.) are accepted only by request of the editorial

Do not hyphenate or use speciﬁc fonts to italicize or
boldface; insert a single space between words and after
punctuation; do not use underlining. Floppy discs 3.5"
and MS Word of the latest versions or .rtf-ﬁles are
acceptable. Label the disk with the name of the word-
processing package used, your name, and the name of
the ﬁle on the disk.

Manuscripts should be arranged as follows.
Title of paper, author’s initials and last name,
address(es) of scientiﬁc institutions with a zip code and
e-mail address. Use numerals to indicate the institute
with which the author is afﬁliated. 2. Summary (1/2 page)
with keywords (at the end, as a separate line, no more
than six key words). 3. Text. 4. Acknowledgments. 5.
Literature cited. 6. Tables. 7. Figure captions. 8. A sep-
arate list of paper with the title, author’s name, and
address(es) of institution(s). 9. When the manuscript is
submitted in Russian, please add a list of speciﬁc terms
translated into English. The manuscript should be
signed by the author (coauthors). Please indicate a con-
tact person, e-mail address, fax and telephone numbers.
All drawings, maps, diagrams, and photographs must
be numbered consecutively and referred to as “Fig.”
Line drawings and maps should be in Indian ink on
white paper or should be made on a laser printer. For
half-tone reproduction, only high-quality glossy black-
and-white photos or photoprinter works are acceptable.
On the back of each ﬁgure, written in pencil, should be
the author(s) name(s) and the number of the ﬁgure; the
top of the ﬁgure should be indicated if its correct orien-
tation in the text is not evident. Scales, numerals, and
lettering should be inserted on the second and third cop-
ies of the ﬁgures; magniﬁcation should be indicated in
ﬁgure captions. The amount of full-size ﬁgures should
be minimal. No more than two ﬁgures can be enclosed
in a short communication.
Each table should be typewritten on a separate page
of the manuscript. Tables must not be included in the
