OBITUARY Georgii Gerogievich Furin (1939 2007) DOI: 10.1134/S1070427207100394 On March 8, 2007, at the age of 69 passed away Georgii Georgievich Furin, a prominent Russia’s fluoroorganic chemist, doctor of chemical science, professor. Georgii Georgievich was born on Febru- ary 27, 1939, in Novorossiisk. Having early become an orphan (his father, G.I. Furin, was killed in action in December 1941, when defending Sevastopol), Ge- orgii Georgievich got used to work already in his childhood; during years of education at Dnepropet- rovsk University (1957 1962), he worked as loader, fireman, typography worker, and teacher of chemistry. Having graduated from the university in 1962, Georgii Georgievich became a staff member of Novosibirsk Institute of Organic Chemistry, where he worked dur- ing his whole life and made his way up from a senior laboratory assistant to deputy director for research activities.
