Nicholas Published online: 10 May 2018 Springer International Publishing AG, part of Springer Nature 2018 Professor Geoff Moore, who teaches at Durham University, should be commended for this practical introduction to virtue ethics. Moore elucidates Alasdair MacIntyre’s virtue theory and shows how to apply it on the everyday level for individuals, managers, and organizations. Alasdair MacIntyre is one of the pre-eminent philosophers of the 20th and twenty-first century; his work has inspired and influenced debates, not only in disparate branches of philosophy, but also sociology, social work, radical left politics, health care, and business. Though MacIntyre’s work extends back to 1958, Moore rightly focuses on MacIntyre’s restatement of Aristotelian Virtue Theory in 1981’s After Virtue and work thereafter. Where MacIntyre’s writing can be difficult, Moore condenses the major arteries of MacIntyre’s virtue theory for a non-academic audience. In doing so, he makes an impassioned plea for greater virtue in the work world, explaining how to build, not only virtuous characters for ourselves, but virtuous organizations that contribute to the common good.
