There are a number of complex compressible flow fields, many containing a variety of features, that require special treatment in order to establish the true geometry in both a spatial and temporal sense. In order to make visual interpretation easier it may be necessary to compare images obtained using different techniques, or to extract salient features to simplify presentation. In this paper we deal with a combination of various techniques such as interferometry, shadow and schlieren imaging, coupled with CFD and surface reconstruction in virtual space, for a variety of shock wave studies.
