In 1963, Zhiznevskaya moved to the Timiryazev Institute of Plant Physiology, USSR Academy of Sci- ences, where she started working in a newly founded Laboratory of the Biochemistry of Micronutrients and conducted the research that contributed to the under- standing of the role of micronutrients in the fixation of atmospheric nitrogen in the nodules of legumes. The data thus obtained formed the basis for her Doctoral dissertation defended in 1969. Later the dissertation was published as a monograph under the title Med’, molibden i zhelezo v azotnom obmene bobovykh raste- nii (Copper, Molybdenum, and Iron in Nitrogen Metab- olism of Legumes) .
