Formation of Charges of Plastic Industrial
Explosives by Extrusion

Abstract—Principles of application of extrusion technology for the formation of charges of industrial plastic
explosives are considered, including analysis of extruder operation and modeling of extrusion process.
Extrusion. For the hardware forming at the
manufacturing plastic composite industrial explosives,
extrusion technology is ordinary applied.
Extrusion is a technological process consisting
essentially of admitting to the material of required form
in the cross-section by pressing it through a profiling unit
By the extrusion technology the plastic composition
of an explosive can be transformed into a final product
having a certain form: sheet, profile band, cord, rod, pipe,
The principal instruments for working up plastic
compositions are single- or multi-screw syringe machines
or extruders. Detailed description of extruder design can
be found in [1−3]. One- and two-worm extruders are used
not only at producing hardware but also in other
technological processes at the manufacturing plastic
explosives, as mixer, plasticizer and granulator .
Modern extruder is a machine that provide
simultaneous heating of polymer material in account
energy formed at of internal friction and its homogeniz-
ation owing to large shift deformations, as well as
creating hydrostatic pressure necessary for continuous
pressing the material through the profiling unit.
Therefore it i possible to define the modern extruder as
a pump completely free of pulsation that passes thermally
homogenous polymer composition with constant
productivity and at the constant pressure.
The most wide application in the industry of
polymers workup have found the single-screw extruders.
Correspondently, the most developed area of theory of
treatment concerns the extrusion process on the single-
worm extruders. Therefore let us consider the processes
occurring at the extrusion on such single-worm machine
(Fig. 1). It consists of: cylindrical body (4) with loading
hopper (5) for feeding with granules or pieces of plastic
explosive, worm (auger) (3) located in the thrust bearing
