Res. Chem. Intermed., Vol. 31, No. 1–3, p. 1 (2005) VSP 2005. Also available online - www.vsppub.com This issue of Research on Chemical Intermediates contains research contributions from some of the well-known laboratories all over the world to honour Dr. J. P. Mit- tal, who retired from the position of Director of Chemistry and Isotope Group at the prestigious Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, Mumbai, India, on 30 September 2003. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Chief Editor, Editors and Members of the Editorial board of this journal to have given me the opportunity of being the Guest Editor of this special issue. I also extend my sincere thanks to all the colleagues worldwide, engaged in research in the frontier areas of Radiation and Photochemistry, who have contributed to this special issue. The 19 papers included in this special issue have equal share from India and abroad. Invitations were sent to a large number of Dr. Mittal’s friends, colleagues and admirers the worldwide. I am happy that a good number of them have responded to my invitation. However, unforeseen delays always come in-between the invitation and the actual publication. Some of the contributing authors delayed sending their manuscripts due to other preoccupations; naturally, I could not go ahead without receiving their papers. I am glad that finally I am able to present all promised papers for this special issue and leave it to the learned readers of Reseach on Chemical Intermediates to judge whether or not my endeavour has been successful.
