Precision Agriculture, 3, 7, 2002 © 2002 Kluwer Academic Publishers. Manufactured in The Netherlands. Dear Readers, This third—and final—special issue continues the project to capitalise on all the good research presented at the 2nd European Conference on Precision Agriculture, held in Odense, Denmark in 1999. There are still a few papers which will be published in ordinary issues of the Journal. As this issue goes to press, papers from the 3rd European Conference are being submitted with the prospect of some special issues being published on that conference. I am writing this just two weeks after the awful happenings in New York and Wash- ington on September 11. Agriculture seems of minor consequence at this time of very delicate decisions and future uncertainty. What is certain is the need for agriculture to provide the food requirements of the world’s population. Precision agriculture has an increasingly important role to play in meeting that need in a sustainable and environ- mentally acceptable way. Dr. John V. Stafford Co-Editor-in-Chief
