Drug prices lower from online Canadian pharmacies than in US PharmacoEconomics & Outcomes News 784, p13 - 12 Aug 2017 Drug prices lower from online Canadian pharmacies than in US The prices of prescription drugs for Medicare Part D (MPD) beneficiaries appear to be lower from online Canadian pharmacies than in the US, according to findings of a cost analysis published in Clinical Drug Investigation. This study compared US prices for the top 100 Medicare prescription drugs which can be legally imported into the US with prices for the same drugs from Canadian online pharmacies. Cost was assessed for a generic drug unless only a brand-name drug was available. Differences in average annual costs between four MPD plans and three Canadian online pharmacies were assessed for 78 of the top Medicare drugs, from a patient perspective. Prices from Canadian online pharmacies were lower than MPD prices for 97.4% of the prescription drugs assessed; price differences ranged from –22.07% to –88.23% (mean –73.71% (p<0.0001). The majority of drugs which could be purchased from Canadian online pharmacies were for heart health/blood pressure control.
