Design and synthesis of 4H-1,4-benzothiazines containing
thiazole ring system for use as potential

Abstract—Synthesis of 4H-1,4-benzothiazines containing thiazole ring system is reported by con-
densation of substituted 2-amino-benzenethiols with N- (substituted benzothiazol-2-yl)-3-oxo-butyr-
amides in the presence of DMSO.

4H-1,4-Benzothiazines, the nitrogen- and sulfur-containing heterocycles, also pos-
sess a wide spectrum of biological and pharmaceutical activities [1–3], similar to
phenothiazines, due to the presence of fold along their nitrogen and sulfur axis,
which is one of the structural features responsible to impart their biological activity.
A number of thiazine-ring-containing drugs are being used clinically.
Thiazole constitutes an important class of nitrogen and sulfur containing hetero-
cycles have long been used for synthesis of biologically active molecules [4–6].
Thiazole and its derivatives have been reported to possess diverse type of biological
and pharmacological activities, such as antifungal , anti-inﬂammatory , anti-
convulsant [9, 10], herbicidal , antitubercular , antitumor  and sedative
