The company Shinagawa Refractories, founded in Japan
in 1875, has been concerned over 135 years with the supply
of refractory products and equipment for all branches of in-
dustry where there is a requirement for using refractory ma-
terials. Today the range of company products includes refrac-
tory items and equipment for metallurgy, refractories for the
ceramic and cement industry, and special products for elec
tric power engineering. The key principles of the company
over many years remain success for the consumer, introduc
tion and innovation, and environmental protection.
Being one of the world leaders in refractory production,
the company constantly expands its presence in the market
for refractory materials throughout the world. The main pro
duction capacity of the company is concentrated in Japan in
eight modern refractory plants and several large research
centers equipped with the newest electronic and computing
technology, and equipment for analysis and simulating re
fractory operation. In several Japanese plants there is also
production of metallurgical equipment. Overseas subdivi
sions of the company include plants in China, Oceania, and
the USA. In plants outside Japan there is production of mag
nesia blocks, and pressed and unmolded refractory objects.
Each enterprise of the company strictly follows the estab-
lished program of production modernization and optimiza-
tion, steadily improving quality and reducing production
costs, and this is one of the priorities of the company. Supply
of finished product is accomplished through engineering and
trade companies of Europe, South America and Japan. Today
products of the company Shinagawa Refractories are acces
sible for the CIS market where a complete spectrum of prod
ucts and materials is offered, including the very latest devel
opments in the field of refractory technology and metallurgi
LINING OF OXYGEN CONVERTERS
One of the forms of refractory product most in demand
in steel production is lining of oxygen converters. The com
pany produces a whole spectrum of refractories for all areas
of a converter lining, including bottom lances, tap-hole
blocks, and brick and large magnesia-carbon blocks, which
are now acquiring great popularity and expansion in the met
allurgical enterprises of Japan, China, and Europe. Today
Shinagawa Refractories supplies of the order of 25% of the
Japanese market for magnesia refractories for oxygen con
verters, which makes it the largest producer of refractory
products in the country.
