Dependences of the contact strength and crack resistance on the load produced by an indenter are investigated, the basic relationships between the statistical mechanics of contact fracture obtained in , using as an example composite ceramics belonging to the system TiN–AlN, are verified, and relationships between abrasive wear and the mechanical characteristics of materials are established.
