Among his works, his research of the issue of the storing taproots of the sugar beet is particularly prominent. This particular study considerably helped to lower sugar losses during storage and lengthen the peri- ods of taproot storage and processing in sugar-reﬁning plants all over the country. The results of this study became especially important during the reconstruction period of the sugar-manufacturing industry and during the Great Patriotic War. The monograph Sugar Beet Storage published by Rubin in 1934 was awarded the State Prize. In 1949, Rubin was elected the chair of the Depart- ment of Plant Physiology in the Faculty of Biology at Moscow State University and he headed this depart- ment for almost 40 years. A man of wide erudition and excellent scientiﬁc intuition, Rubin understood well the prospects for fur- ther development of biological science.
