Calorimetric Study of the Enthalpies of Solution
of Methyl Iodides of Dimethylamino Grosshemin
and Diethylamino Grosshemin in Water and Evaluation
of the Thermodynamic Properties of Their Analogues

Abstract-The method of isothermal calorimetry at dilutions (moles salt/moles water) of 1 : 9000, 1 : 18000,
and 1 : 36000 was applied to study the heats of solution of methyl iodides of dimethyl- and diethylamino
grosshemin. The data obtained were used to calculate the standard enthalpies of solution of C
NI in an infinitely diluted (standard) aqueous solution. The heats of combustion and melting of
NI and C
NI were estimated. The experimental and calculational techniques were combined
to calculate the standard heats of formation of methyl iodides of dimethyl- and diethylamino grosshemin and
their 66 analogues.
A study of thermochemical and thermodynamic
properties of natural compounds and their derivatives
is of certain theoretical and practical interest for di-
rected synthesis and standardization of samples of me-
dicinal substances based on these compounds [1, 2].
To biologically active compounds of this kind be-
longs a sesquiterpene lactone grosshemin, extracted
from vegetable raw materials .
It should be noted that the thermochemical and
thermodynamic properties of this theoretically and
practically important sesquiterpene lactone and its
derivatives have not been studied so far. Therefore,
an experimental study of the thermochemical prop-
erties of methyl iodides of dimethyl- and diethyl-
amino grosshemin was carried out and the data ob-
tained were used to find by a combination of calcu-
lational techniques the standard enthalpies of forma-
tion of C
NI (1), C
NI (2), and their
