The vapour phase alkylation of methoxyphenols with alcohols in the presence of an iron catalyst that contains Cr, Si and K oxides was studied. The reactions were carried out in a continuous process at atmospheric pressure. It is possible to receive ortho alkylated derivatives of 3- and 4-methoxyphenol with high yield and selectivity.
