New York: Random House, 1998, 286 pp., $13.95 (paperback). “ ” In a society where adolescent virginity has become an outmode d ideal (p. xxv) andwh ere sexual violence among teen relationships has been popu- larized to be seen as sexy and regarded as acceptable by a disturbing num- ber of teenage girls (p. 190), we have a real crisis at hand. As professor of Women s Studies at Cornell Unive rsity and a feminist historian, Joan Jacobs Brumberg acknowle dges the urgency of addre ssing this current crisis with the recent publication of The Body Project. Her goal is to initiate a multigenerational dialogue that speaks to the reality of earlier maturation, the need for sexual expression, and the nature of contemporary culture (p. 209).
