The succession patterns of soil-plant systems have been found to be synergetically nonlinear. Nonhomogeneous Markov chains are used to predict and manage arid grazing lands in order to maintain their self-restoration. A method for estimating their states with the use of Markov chains is proposed. Problems related to the dynamic equilibrium of slope systems subject to water erosion are considered. Comparison of the dynamics of animate and inanimate open systems has shown that their patterns are identical in terms of mathematical description.
