Behavior of nonequilibrium arid ecosystems and its prediction The succession patterns of soil-plant systems have been found to be synergetically nonlinear. Nonhomogeneous Markov chains are used to predict and manage arid grazing lands in order to maintain their self-restoration. A method for estimating their states with the use of Markov chains is proposed. Problems related to the dynamic equilibrium of slope systems subject to water erosion are considered. Abstract
