Die Quadrizepssehne bietet sowohl im Revisionsfall als auch bei der primären Rekonstruktion des vorderen Kreuzbands (VKB) sehr gute Eigenschaften als Transplantat und erfreut sich somit zunehmender Akzeptanz. Insbesondere nach minimal-invasiver Entnahme weist die Quadrizepssehne gegenüber den Hamstringsehnen eine vergleichbar geringe Entnahmemorbidität auf. Das flache Transplantat eignet sich besonders gut zu einer anatomischen Rekonstruktion des flachen VKB. Hierzu können sowohl der femorale als auch der tibiale Tunnel mit Hilfe von speziellen Raspeln und Dilatatoren rechteckig angelegt werden. Diese Einzelbündel-VKB-Plastik entspricht in ihrem Aufbau den aktuellen anatomischen Beschreibungen des vorderen Kreuzbands von Robert Smigielski. Diese Technik verspricht neben biomechanischen vor allem auch biologische Vorteile bezüglich der Einheilung des Transplantats.
