Kolesnikov at the Geophysical Branch and the Chair of Physics of Sea and Land Waters at the Department of Physics of the Moscow State University* In 1945, the Geophysical Branch was organized at the Department of Physics of the Moscow State University. It included four chairs, namely, the Chair of Marine Phys- ics, the Chair of Physics of Channel Currents, the Chair of Physics of Atmosphere, and the Chair of Geophysics. The Geophysical Branch and the Chair of Marine Physics were organized and headed by Academician V. V. Shuleikin. In 1948, V. V. Shuleikin headed the Central Directorate of the Hydromcteorological Service of the USSR and Arkady Georgievich Kolesnikov, future Academician of the Ukrainian Academy of Sciences, occupied the position of Head of the Chair of Marine Physics. Somewhat later, he also headed the Geophysical Branch. In 1954, the Chairs of Marine Physics and Physics of Channel Currents were reorganized into the Chair of Physics of Sea and Land Waters.
