The present device for heat and humidity treatment of air
belongs to the class of regenerative gas-liquid heat exchange
apparatuses used in heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning
systems, chiefly for cooling circulating water when heating
Checkerwork 2 and a bottom plate 3 in the lower part
and moving shutters 4 situated in front of the checkerwork 2
and sprinkler 5 situated on top of the checkerwork are
mounted in the housing 1 of the device [1, 2] (cf. Fig. 1). The
sprinkler 5 and shutter 4 are installed so as to move along the
checkerwork 2 and are linked together kinematically. The
shutters 4 are fabricated with a regulated width. The device is
provided with additional shutters 4 installed behind the
Guides 6 and 7 are mounted in the housing 2 above the
checkerwork 2. A moveable sprinkler 5 mounted on a car
riage 8 with wheeled supports 9 is installed in the guide 6.
The sprinkler 5 is supplied with delivery hoses 10, split
injector11, and hooks 12 installed between the hooks 13 of
the shutters 4. In order to regulate the width the shutters 4 are
equipped with regulating plates 14 on pins 15. The bottom
plate 3 is supplied with a branch drain pipe 16.
The present device for air treatment functions in the fol
lowing way. Heated liquid, for example, circulating water is
fed to the sprinkler 5 through hoses 10. The checkerwork 2 is
sprinkled with water through the split injector11 of the
checkerwork 2; the water drains down to the bottom plate 3.
In the course of sprinkling the checkerwork 2 becomes wet
and is heated. The heat of the checkerwork is extracted by
means of blown air. Heated air is used for production needs.
To reduce energy consumption needed to overcome the aero-
dynamic resistance created by the liquid draining through the
channels of the checkerwork 2 and reduce entrainment of
drops, the checkerwork 2 is heated only in the spraying zone
as the sprinkler 5 travels over it. The speed of the injector is
determined by the physical properties of the heat-transfer
agent (air and water) and the material of the checkerwork 2.
To reduce drop entrainment, the watering zone is protected
