In the present study, shielded metal arc welding with three types of electrodes such as E-NiCrFe3, E309L, and E8015 along with three different welding techniques was utilized to investigate the elimination of post-weld heat treatment (PWHT). Variations in average HAZ width and evaluating ductility, hardness, and microstructural changes in the weld metal and heat-affected zone were investigated. It was found that PWHT can be ignored by applying half bead tempering technique due to HAZ tempering of the previous bead by the heat input of subsequent runs. The best combination of ultimate tensile strength and ductility was achieved by utilizing Ni-based electrode.
