Nursing History Review, the official publication of the American Association for the History of Nursing, is a peer-reviewed journal, published annually. Original research manuscripts are welcomed in broad areas related to the his- tory of nursing, healthcare, health policy, and society. The Review defines orig- inal research as research based on primary sources. Authors should set their argument within the context of the published literature about their topic—at times using the secondary literature as historical context, and at times reinter- preting past arguments. The Review regularly publishes articles that later appear as chapters in books. Our publisher, Springer Publishing Company, holds the copyright and the author and/or publisher must formally request permission to reprint the article at http://www.springerpub.com/permission-requests. The article must predate the publication of the book. Article Submission Initial submissions or queries about manuscripts should be sent to the editor, Arlene Keeling, at awk2z@virginia.edu with subject line “NHR VOL. [##] SUBMISSION: [Article Title].” The Review prefers manuscripts of approxi- mately 12,000 words, inclusive of endnotes. Shorter manuscripts may be con- sidered for the section “Hidden in Plain Sight,” as less data is often available for minority and diverse nurses. Book and Media Reviews (600–900 words) should be sent
