This presentation will focus on the changing nature of disability in the 21st century. The pre- senters will (a) provide examples of emerging causes and types of disabilities (e.g., chronic pain, environmentally-caused disabilities, neurodevelopmental disorders, disabilities caused by violence, disabilities arising from poverty, rare disorders); (b) examine psychosocial, medical, and vocational characteristics of emerging disabilities; and (c) identify needed changes to rehabilitation policy and practice to effectively respond to this growing population of rehabilitation consumers.
