A Different Time EDITOR’S NOTE As I write this note, the world is in the midst of a devastating corona virus (COVID-19) pandemic. It is April 21, 2020, and to date over 2.4 million people have contracted the virus and more than 170,000 have died since the outbreak was first reported. No doubt, by the time this volume of the Review goes to press, the number of cases and the number of deaths due to this virus will have increased significantly. We are living in a difficult time, one that will go down in history, not only for the pandemic’s impact on society but also for the way in which the global community responded to it. While great differences exist in how governments around the world have been addressing the pandemic, they share a recognition of the important role nurses have played. Indeed, no matter the culture and the geopolitical context, nurses have demonstrated that they are essential to patient care, responding to their needs with compassion, courage, and competence. For their work, nurses are making headline news. In other disasters, such as earthquakes and fires, reporters usually interview and feature the voices of first responders.
