Prideaux et al. (2011) identified key principles applied to ‘assessment for selection,’ which are seen throughout the articles in this special edition. The ‘pieces’ of what con- stitutes a ‘good’ healthcare professional are currently assessed in a range of differing ways during selection into education and training. In the United Kingdom, the Medical Schools Council report suggests selection frameworks and models broadly address three consid- erations (skills, values and attributes) with similar frameworks existing in other countries such as the CanMEDS framework in Canada (Selecting for Excellence Executive Group 2014; Frank and Danoff 2007).
