The surface tension of4He: Low-temperature behavior The low-temperature surface tension of4He is calculated in the excitation approximation based upon a fundamental microscopic theory. The low-temperature behavior is shown to be due entirely to the effects of the coexistence curve. The role of the excitations in surface tension calculations is clarified, and it is found that only bulk excitations contribute to the surface tension and that the excitations can be ignored up to 2.2 K with an error of about 1%. The low-temperature surface tension of4He is calculated in the excitation approximation based upon a fundamental microscopic theory.
