Zusammenfassung Rhythmusmonitoring ist ein essenzieller Bestandteil der Diagnostik und Therapie verschiedener Erkrankungen. Technische Entwicklungen der vergangenen Jahre haben das Rhythmusmonitoring einerseits vereinfacht und verfügbar gemacht, andererseits durch die Vielzahl an Möglichkeiten verkompliziert. Verschiedene Hersteller bieten unterschiedliche Geräte zur Pulswellen- und Elektrokardiogramm-Analyse an. Deren Anwendung spielt zunehmend auch im ärztlichen Alltag eine wichtige Rolle, u. a. auch, weil opportunistisch erhobene Befunde ärztlich eingeordnet werden müssen. Dieser Artikel soll eine Übersicht über bestehende Technologien und deren Vor- und Nachteile vermitteln sowie einen Ausblick auf zukünftige Technologien geben. Es ist in allen Fällen wichtig festzuhalten, dass eine Vielzahl klinischer Studien nötig sein wird, um den Nutzen des modernen Rhythmusmonitorings zu untersuchen und dessen medizinischen Einsatz zu fördern.
