The possibility is considered of removing iron from vermiculite as a result of treating it with water-containing gases. As a result it is found that the iron content may be reduced by almost a factor of three. As detected, a reduction of the iron content of vermiculite leads to a volumetric increase that should be reflected in its heat insulation properties.
