Hille almost half a century ago, has been followed by many others showing not only the progress of the theory but also the broadening of the ¯eld of the applications. The present volume (of almost 600 pages) can be considered an up-to-date exposition of the theory and applications of linear semigroup theory, containing not only new results but also some older topics usually not treated in the former
