I can recall instances at our Congresses in Marburg, Halifax, and Vienna and through the e-mails in which our conversations were enriching and always solutions-oriented. At the Madison Congress last year, when my laptop crashed unexpectedly and I had to get something written and assembled right away, Gopi gladly and immediately offered his computer to borrow for a while. One can say that the simple gestures show the rewarding complexities of a person, and Gopi certainly represented this. Since 2002 Gopi was the chairman of the University of Alabama in Huntsville’s Department of Biological Sciences where he contributed to the development of undergraduate curricula and coordinated interactions between faculty and local biotechnology companies. In addition, he trained Dr. Gopi Krishna Podila many graduate and undergraduate students.
