Landslides in the white mountain, Nablus, Palestine in 2018 (case study)

Landslides in the white mountain, Nablus, Palestine in 2018 (case study) Landslides occurred in 1997 and 2018 in the White Mountain region called Al Maa’ajeen of the City of Nablus, Palestine. Landslides in 1997 caused complete house failure, damages in several neighboring houses and in Nablus–Tulkarm Main Street. Remedy measures were taken including rows of bored cast in-situ reinforced concrete sheet piles, overall drainage of the site and planting the sliding area with special types of trees to stabilize the site. Furthermore, it was suggested to divide the region into three zones regarding slope stability analysis and construction. It was found that the reasons for this sliding were the type of soil that becomes very soft when mixed with water and the deep excavation with neither bracing system nor engineering supervision. Very close to the site other landslides occurred in 2018. The reasons for these landslides are again the type of soil and the deep excavation without a support system. This landslide causes major soil movement in the region and severely damaged in several houses. These damages were caused by the shear forces that contributed as inclined and vertical cracks in the internal and external walls of the buildings. This paper summarized the main reasons for landslides that occurred in 2018 in the White Mountain region and the remedy measures to correct the sliding. http://www.deepdyve.com/assets/images/DeepDyve-Logo-lg.png Innovative Infrastructure Solutions Springer Journals

Abstract

Landslides occurred in 1997 and 2018 in the White Mountain region called Al Maa’ajeen of the City of Nablus, Palestine.
