Ernst Rothlin To Ernst Rothlin "Psychopharmacologia" as a unique international journal covering the field of psychopharmacology was first published in 1959. Dr. G6TzE of Springer-Verlag approached Dr. RO~HLr~ and the late Dr. MAY~G~oss of the University of Birmingham, England, and discussed the formation of the Journal with Dr. R o ~ n m , Dr. MAY~R-Ggoss and Dr. JOEL E L ~ S . At that time the Collegium Internationale Neuro-Psychopharmaeologicum had been formed and Dr. lgOTHLI~ had been elected its first president. Psychopharmacology was coming clearly into its own as an interdisciplinary science and a special journal seemed timely and appropriate. There was general agreement that an interdisciplinary science like psychopharmacology needed a journal which would bring together papers from the many research areas involved. Without such a journal papers on clinical drug evaluation would have continued to appear in clinical journals, experimental psychological papers in psychological journals and pharmacological and biochemical papers in basic science journals. The primary function of this interdisciplinary journal of psychopharmacology was to bring together articles from all these areas and to promote communication in this important and growing field.
