An n-hexane extract of fresh, mature leaves of Lagerstroemia speciosa Pers., containing a thin layer of epicuticular waxes, has been analyzed for the first time by thin-layer chromatography (TLC), infrared (IR) spectroscopy, gas chromatography (GC), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) for standard hydrocarbons. The leaves contained 17 identified long-chain (C14–C38) n-alkanes except C14, C15, C17, C19, C21, C23, C36, and C37, accounting for 87.87 % of the hydrocarbons present, and an unknown number of unidentified branched-chain alkanes. The predominant n-alkane was C31 (24.92 %), whilst C33 (14.70 %), C18 (8.30 %), C16 (7.99 %), and C29 (5.11 %) n-alkanes were moderately abundant; the C35 (0.96 %) and C34 (0.64 %) homologs were present in only minor amounts.
