The recovery of each of eleven common hydrocarbons found in atmospheric dust has been determined. Thin-layer chromatography in two directions has been found necessary for their separation. The best solvent for their extraction was found to be cyclohexane which is also a convenient solvent for their measurement by U.V. spectrophotometry.
