Communications — Expocom ’98 Metallurgist, Vol. 42, No. 6, 1998 EXHIBITIONS E. lvanova The interest in exhibitions devoted to progress in the communications industry is currently at a peak. Such shows attract hundreds of foreign exhibitors and tens of thousands of specialists in the field, thus providing an excellent opportunity for establishing and broadening business contacts and finding new business partners. The communications sector is one of the most research-intensive sectors of industry, and its growth paves the way for the growth of other sectors. The communications industry offers a prime example of how to sustain commercial success and make use of basic scientific research and findings in applied science. "Communications - Expocom," an international exhibition of communication systems, telecommunications equip- ment, computers, and original technologies, was held in May in Moscow at the Exhibit Center in Red Square for the tenth time. Last year, the show had 415 exhibitors from 33 nations. "Communications - Expocom '97" was visited by 130,000 people, 90,000 of which were specialists in the field.
