Kluwer Academic/Plenum Publishers, New York (ISBN 0-306-46612-0 2001) Hardbound, 2001, 708 pp. Since 1968, when the first monograph by Fred Wendorf and Associates was published (Wendorf 1968, The Prehistory of Nubia), the results of the Combined Prehistoric Expedition (CPE) are among the main references for palaeoclimatic and archaeological research in Africa and abroad. The last 30 years have been in fact punctuated by an impressive series of books from this team, which regularly updated the scientific community and a broader audience, about ongoing studies in Egypt. Fred Wendorf, Romuald Schild, and their team dramatically improved our knowledge of the Late Pleistocene and Holocene human occupation in Africa, using different locational foci in Egypt as case studies. More important, in my view, is the relevance of this team in a wider per- spective.
