Pediatr Nephrol (2013) 28:167–186 DOI 10.1007/s00467-012-2340-4 ABSTRACTS 1st international Symposium on AKI in Children at the 7th International Conference on Pediatric Continuous Renal Replacement therapy September 27 – 30, 2012 Cincinnati, Ohio, USA The previous six PCRRT conferences served as the only venue to present and discuss state of the art methods for CRRT delivery, focusing solely on CRRT application across multiple diseases in children. Given the expanding discoveries and transformation in pediatric AKI epidemiology, outcomes, biomarkers, and multi-organ illness over the past decade, we broadened the scope of PCRRT to provide cutting edge pediatric focused presentations from clinical, translational and basic science experts in AKI. In addition, we augmented PCRRT with a hands-on workshop incorporating simulation center scenarios to put the didactic concepts into tangible practice. Abstracts were solicited and 47 submitted by attendees from around the world. They were presented at the conference in either oral or poster format. We are pleased to share them with you in this publication of Pediatric Nephrology. PAKI-PCRRT 2012, attended by more than 300 critical care nephrology practitioners and researchers from 25 countries, was made possible by the support of industry and by the speakers who donated their time.
