Abstract
[Part I set the stage for a discussion of a theory of causation in the special sciences. Chapter 1 argued for the naturalist criterion and the distinction criterion of adequacy for an explication of causation in the special sciences. Chapter 2 presented Woodward’s interventionist theory of causation and its virtues were highlighted. Part II will focus on objections to the interventionist theory of causation. This chapter will raise a problem for interventionists that stems from the meaning of counterfactual conditionals.]
